Man on the Mend is the fifth solo album from Dekker. Across ten songs, the record pairs upbeat folk music with woody, sometimes scratchy textures. Written, performed, produced and engineered by Dekker in his home studios, it feels immediate, vulnerable and unmistakably his.

Dekker recorded the instruments with close microphones and embraced rougher texture than usual. Custom built nylon string guitars run throughout the album, alongside a hollowbody electric guitar, Mellotron, Prophet synth and an old bass. His mother’s
childhood baritone ukulele appears on The Boy Inside. A vintage drum kit features on only a handful of songs. Elsewhere, rhythm comes from the guitars themselves, joined by snaps, claps and the occasional shaker. The result is deliberately human without being artificially distressed: music retaining the grain of the hands that made it.
